NORD Architects has advised Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality in connection with the transformation of the former Tulip building and slaughterhouse site at Faaborg Harbor. The vision for the harbor is to convert the space into the city’s new cultural and gastronomic hub – a centre for experience-based economy that aims to strengthen Faaborg’s communities and tourism in the region. NORD Architects has explored the potential for development in a concept proposal, which forms the basis for grant applications and further development work.
The transformation of the area draws upon its historical industrial character in a comprehensive approach that connects the harbor with the Tulip building as a new focal point for life and activity.
The concept proposal outlines the potentials and interior possibilities of the Tulip building, suggesting how the building and its surrounding areas can provide a flexible frameworks that can adapt over time. The proposal shows how expansion plans can coexist with temporary and permanent activities such as maritime and gastronomic workshops, community events, and pop-ups.
