The aim of the transformation of the Elsass headquarters is to make the facilities more welcoming and accessible to the foundation’s target group, people with cerebral palsy. The Elsass Foundation’s purpose is to give people with cerebral palsy and their families the best possible prospects to live their lives to the fullest.
The headquarters premises are beautiful and preservation-worthy, build in 1920. However not all the premises are accessible to the primary users of whom many are in wheelchairs or have difficulty walking. Â
This is why universal design and establishing accessibility have been a main focus in the transformation.
As a heritage-listed property the buildings have been minimally touched on the exterior. Where changes are made on the facades building components, and materials have been chosen to align with the original architecture, so new building parts stylistically appear as a harmonious whole within the development.
Inside a new color scheme and new interior design creates a space that feels warmer, more homely and cohesive.
