Bicycle Hub

A new meeting place for alternative sports

Cycling is a very popular form of exercise in Denmark. This is reflected in the high number of cyclists on the roads, mountain bikers in the woods and BMX’ers in cities. The vast majority of people cycle on their own but the number of members in bicycle communities is increasing rapidly. Unlike members of football clubs and other sports, cyclists have no tradition for clubhouses – and certainly not across the various bike disciplines.

The Bicycle Hub will be a meeting place and a center of activity. It is a place where knowledge can be passed on in workshops, where techniques can be polished in the outdoor riding area, tricks shown on the café’s big screen and where the excitement of the major stages in the Tour de France, the Giro and the Vuelta can be enjoyed by all.

The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities (Lokale og Anlægsfonden) has teamed up with NORD Architects and compiled a list of options for a project like this. It’s a place where cyclists can gather across the cycling disciplines and create a new shared culture for their passion of cycling together.

The first example of The Bicycle Hub in Denmark had Ballerup as location, where the municipality had appointed an ideal location in Ballerup Idrætsby, a site on the border of the town that is in close proximity to existing sports facilities.
